Full Definition

قَثَّI , as an Verbal.Noun, of which the verb is قَثَّ, Present.T قَثُثَ signifies The collecting of مَال [i. e. cattle, or other property], and so قِثِّيثَى, with kesr, (TA, but written in the O قَثّيثى,) used in relation to مال: or the collecting of a thing largely, or abundantly. And The drawing, or dragging, along, of a thing. And The driving along. One says, جَآءَ فُلَانٌ يَقُثُّ مَالًا [Such a one came] drawing, or dragging, along, and driving along, مال [i. e. cattle]. And جَآءَ يَقُثُّ دُنْيَا عَرِيضَةٌ [He came] drawing, or dragging, along [ample worldly property]. And قَثَّ السَّيْلُ الغُثَآءَ [The torrent] drove along [the rubbish, and scum, and rotten leaves mixed with the scum, or the like].
2 And The pulling out, or up; or uprooting, or eradicating; as also . One says, حَجَرًا مِنْ مَكَانِهِ He pulled out, or up, a stone from its place: and القَوْمَ مِنْ أَصْلِهِمْ [He extirpated the people, or party]; as also اِجْتَثَّهُمْ: and and اُجْتُثَّ It was uprooted: قَثٌّ and جَثٌّ are one [in meaning].
