قَرَابَةٌ

Full Definition

قَرَابَةٌ , which is originally an Verbal.Noun, [i. e., of قَرُبَ, as is also, app., every one of its syns. here following,] and قُرْبَى and قُرْبَةٌ and قُرُبَةٌ and قُرْبٌ and مَقْرُبَةٌ and مَقْرَبَةٌ مَقْرِبَةٌ , all of them, or the first and قُرْبَى , signify Relationship, or relationship by the female side; or the first has the former of these significations and قُرْبَى has the latter of them: [in the S, القَرَابَةُ is expl. signifying القُرْبَى فِى الرَّحِمِ; and in the Mgh and Msb, it and are expl. as being فِى الرَّحِمِ; but in the T, as cited in the TA, the former is expl. as being فِى النَّسَبِ, and as being فِى الرَّحِمِ: see the first sentence of this art.:] you say, بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَهُ قَرَابَةٌ &c. [i. e. Between me and him is a relationship, or a relationship by the female side].
