Full Definition

مِخْلَبٌ [The talon, or claw, of a bird or beast of prey; a tearing talon or claw;] the same to the bird and to the beast of prey as the ظُفُر to man; because the bird [or beast] cuts and rends with it the skin: the ظُفُر [or nail] of any beast or bird of prey: or it is of a bird of prey; and the ظفر is of a bird that does not prey: pl. مَخَالِبُ. [See also خِلْبٌ.] You say, أَنْشَبَ فِيهِ مَخَالِبَهُ, meaning He clung, or caught, to him, or it.
2 Also A مِنْجَل [or reaping-hook] in a general sense: or that has no teeth.
