Full Definition

مَرْضَآةٌ , originally مَرْضَوَةٌ, an Verbal.Noun of رَضِىَ.
2 [Also A cause, or means, or an occasion, of رِضًى, i. e., of being pleased, well pleased, conten, &c.: a word of the same class as مَبْخَلَةٌ and مَجْبَنَةٌ. Hence the saying,] البِرُّ مَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ مَسْخَطَةٌ لِلشَّيْطَانِ [Piety is a cause of approbation to the Lord, a cause of disapprobation, or anger, to the devil]. (TA in art. سخط.) The pl. of مَرْضَاةٌ is مَرَاضٍ [accord. to rule]: or this is an irreg. pl. of رِضًى.
