مُسْتَفِيضٌ

Root: فيض

Full Definition

مُسْتَفِيضٌ One who asks for the pouring out (إِفَاضَة) of water &c.

def.2 A story, or a piece of news, spread abroad among the people, like water; as also مُسْتَفَاضٌ فِيهِ; but you should not say مُسْتَفَاضٌ [alone], for this is a mistake of the inhabitants of the towns and villages: or this last is a word of weak authority: it is, however, used by some; for instance, by Aboo-Temmám; as meaning begun, commenced, or entered upon; but most disallow it unless followed by فِيهِ.
