مَضْمَضَ
R. Q. 1 or مَضْمَضَ المَآءَ فِى فِيهِ, Verbal.Noun مَضْمَضَةٌ and مِضْمَاضٌ and مَضْمَاضٌ, this last is said by As to be allowable, [He rinsed his mouth with water;] he agitated water round about in his mouth; لِلْوُضُوْءِ for the وضوء, q. v.; as also للوضوء, or فِى وُضُوْئِهِ in his وضوء, or بِالْمَآءِ. [See also مَصْمَصَ.]
2 مَضْمَضَ, Verbal.Noun مَضْمَضَةٌ, also signifies He agitated a vessel [so as to rinse it, or wash it out, with water]: or he washed a vessel, or other thing; so, [for instance,] a garment, or piece of cloth; as also مَصْمَصَهُ [q. v.]

def.2 [Hence,] مَا مَضْمَضْتُ عَيْنِى بِنَوْمٍ I did not sleep. And مَا مَضْمَضَتْ عَيْنِى بِنَوْمٍ, or مَا , My eye did not sleep. [The Verbal.Noun] مِضْمَاضٌ also signifies The state of sleeping. And مَضْمَضَ He slept a long sleep. And مَضْمَضَ النُّعَاسُ فِى عَيْنِهِ Drowsiness crept in his eye; and [so] النُّعَاسُ فِى عَيْنِهِ, or النَّوْمُ sleep. And العَيْنُ بِالنُّعَاسِ [The eye became infused with drowsiness].

def.3 مَضْمَضَةٌ also signifies, accord. to El-Fárábee, The making, or uttering, of a sound; or the sound itself; (صَوْت;) of the serpent, &c.: or, as some say, its making motions with the tongue [so as to produce a sound].
