Lane's Arabic-English Lexicon

مُلَآءَةٌ

Root: ملأَ

Full Definition

مُلَآءَةٌ and مُلْأَةٌ and مُلَآءٌ A defluxion, or rheum, syn. زُكَامٌ, occasioned by repletion, or a heaviness in the head, like a defluxion, or rheum, (زكام,) from repletion of the stomach. [See also مِلْأَةٌ.]

def.2 مُلَآءَةٌ A piece of drapery which is wrapped about the body; i. q., إِزَارٌ and رَيْطَةٌ: or the ملاءة is a covering for the body formed of two pieces; composed of two oblong pieces of cloth sewed together; (Msb, in art. لغق;) and the ريطة is of a single piece. [It appears to have been generally yellow, (see وَرْسٌ, and أَوْرَسَ,) and was probably otherwise similar to the modern مِلَايَة, which is described and represented in my work on the Modern Egyptians, part i., ch. 1.] Pl. مُلَآءٌ; [or rather this is a quasi-pl. n.; or a coll. gen. n., of which ملاءة is the n. un.;] or, accord. to some, مُلَأٌ; but the former is better established. Dim. مُلَيْئَةٌ; for which مُلَيَّةٌ was also used, accord. to a tradition.
2 مُلَآءَةُ الحُسْنِ Fairness of complexion.
3 المَحْضُ Simple dust.
4 Also مُلَآءَةٌ The skim that forms on the surface of milk.
