Root: لقح

Full Definition

مَلْقُوحَةٌ and مَلْقُوحٌ, which latter is also used in a pl. sense, What is in the belly of a she-camel: or what is in the back of the stallion camel; [meaning his progeny in the elemental state;] but the former, says Az, is the correct signification: مَلْقُوحَةٌ is for مَلْقُوحٌ بِهِ, converted into a subst., from لُقِحَتْ, like مَحْمُومٌ from حُمَّ, and مَجْنُونٌ from جُنَّ: pl. مَلَاقِيحُ. The Muslims are forbidden to sell مَلَاقِيح and مَضَامِين. [See the latter of these words.]
2 المَلَاقِيحُ is also used to signify The mothers: and its sing. is مَلْقُوحَةٌ.
3 See لَاقِحٌ.
