نَاطُورٌ

Full Definition

نَاطُورٌ A keeper, or watcher, of vines, and of palm-trees, and of seed-produce: as also نَاطُورَةٌ and نَاطِرٌ : pl. نَوَاطِيرُ and نِطَارٌ and نُطَرَآءُ and نَطَرَةٌ: it is a foreign word, (أَعْجَمِىٌّ, K,) not pure Arabic, of the dial. of the people of Es-Sawád: Az says, I know not whether it be taken from the language of the people of Es-Sawád or be Arabic: accord. to AHn, it is Arabic: and IAar says, that it is from نَطْرَةٌ, meaning as explained above: IDrd says, that it is with ظ, from النَّظَرُ; but in the language of the Nabatheans with ط; that the Nabatheans change the former letter into ط.
