نَطِيحٌ

Root: نطح

Full Definition

نَطِيحٌ Smitten with the horn and so killed: fem. with ة: pl. نَطْحَى and نَطَائِحُ: you say also نَعْجَةٌ نَطِيحٌ, as well as نطيحة.
2 Also نَطِيحَةٌ A sheep or goat smitten with the horn and so killed. and of which the flesh is therefore unlawful to be eaten: the ة is added because it is made a subst., not an epithet: or because the quality of a subst. predominates in it, as in the case of فَرِيسَةٌ and أَكِيلَةٌ and رَمِيَّةٌ.
3 نَطِيحٌ and What comes to thee from before thee, of birds and wild animals &c., which one rouses by throwing a stone or by crying out, and from the course of which one augurs evil or good: contr. of قَعِيدٌ. [The نطيح or is of evil omen.]
4 Hence, نَطِيحٌ An unfortunate, or unlucky, man.
5 نَطِيحٌ A horse having a blaze, or white mark on his face, extending to one of his ears, which is deemed unlucky: or a horse having on his forehead two circular or spiral curls of hair (دَائِرَتَانِ), which are disliked: if there be but one, it is called دَائِرَةُ اللَّطَاةِ; and this is not disliked; or it is called لَطْمَةٌ; and the horse, لَطِيمٌ.
