هَيْدَبٌ : see هُدْبٌ.
2 [Its pl., هَيَادِبُ, is also applied to Filaments, capillaments, or fringe-like appertenances, of a flower.
3 هَيْدَبٌ; A cloud or clouds, hanging down, approaching [the earth], like the هُدْب [or unwoven end or extremity,] of a (قَطِيفَة: or the هيدب of a cloud is its ذَيْل [or skirt]. or what hangs down, of it, like the unwoven and, or extremity, of a garment. (مَا تَهَذَّبَ مِنْهُ.) when it is about to rain, resembling strings
4 هَيْدَبٌ A pendulous pubes of a woman: likened to the هيدب of a cloud
5 هَيْدَبٌ Tears flowing in a continued succession. On the authority of Lth, who cites the following verse: بِدَمْعٍ ذِى حَرَارَاتٍ عَلَى الخَدَّيْنِ ذِى هَيْدَبْ [With hot tears upon the cheeks, flowing in a continued succession]. But it is said in the L, I have not heard هيدب used as an epithet applied to rain falling continuously, Present.T as an epithet applied to tears; and the verse which Lth adduces as an authority is forged.
6 هَيْدَبٌ and هُدُبٌّ and هُدَّابٌ Impotent in speech or actions; syn. عَيِىٌّ; (in one copy of the K غَبِىٌّ, or unintelligent; TA;) and heavy, or dull: or هيدب signifies impotent in speech or actions; dull of speech and understanding; heavy: and hard, or churlish; heavy, or dull; having much hair: or, as some say, one who has upon him dangling strings, or the like, hanging from the suspensory of a sword, or other thing, and resembling the هيدب of a cloud: or, as some say, this word signifies stupid; foolish; of little sense: and , weak.
