وَامِئَةٌ

Full Definition

وَامِئَةٌ A misfortune; calamity: thought by ISd to be a subst. [not an act. part. n.] because no verb from which it could be derived is known.
2 وَقَعَ فِى وَامِئَةٍ He fell into a misfortune or calamity.
3 ذَهَبَ ثَوْبِى فَمَا أَدْرِىمَا كَانَتْ وَامِئَتُهُ My garment is lost, and I know not what misfortune has taken it away: or, who has taken it. The phrase without negation is also used. [See a similar phrase in art. لمأ.]
