Full Definition

وِسَادٌ and and وَسَادَةٌ and وُسَادَةٌ, but some disallow the last two forms, and إِسَادَةٌ, and أُسَادَةٌ, (K, art. أسد,) A pillow, or cushion, upon which one rests his cheek or head: and the first, a thing upon which one reclines, or rests: or the first, only, signifies, anything that is used as a pillow, or put beneath the head, whether of household-furniture, or stones, or earth &c: pl. of the first, وُسُدٌ and وُسْدٌ; and of the second, وَسَائِدُ and وَسَادَاتٌ.
2 إِنَّ وِسَادَكَ لَعَرِيضٌ [lit., Verily thy pillow is wide:] said by Mohammad to 'Adee Ibn-Hátim: alluding to his sleeping much; because he whose pillow is wide sleeps pleasantly: or to his sleeping night and day: or to his having a wide back to his neck, and a great head, indicating want of understanding. You say, هُوَ عَرِيضُ الوِسَادِ, meaning, He is stupid, dull, or wanting in intelligence: or sleepy. (TA, art. عرض.)
