وَسِْمَةٌ [now applied to Woad]: i. q. عِظْلِمٌ, with which one tinges or dyes [the hands, &c.]: a certain plant, with the leaves of which one tinges or dyes [the hands, &c.]; and said to be the عِظْلِم: the leaves of the نِيل [or indigo-plant]: or a plant [of another species ] with the leaves of which one tinges or dyes [the hands, &c.]
