def.2 [Hence,] وَقَرَ ٱللّٰهُ أُذُنَهُ, Present.T يَقِرُهَا, Verbal.Noun وَقْرٌ, God made his ear heavy, or dull of hearing: or deaf. You say, أَللّٰهُمَّ قِرْ أَذُهَهُ O God, make his ear heavy, or dull of hearing: or deaf.
2 [Hence also,] وَقِرَتْ أُذُنُهُ, Present.T تُوقَرُ, Verbal.Noun وَقْرٌ; and وَقِرَتْ, Present.T تَوْقَرُ; and وَقَرَتْ, Present.T تَقِرُ; Verbal.Noun وَقْرٌ, which by rule should be وَقَرٌ, as Verbal.Noun of وَقِرَتْ, but which is regular as Verbal.Noun of وَقَرَتْ; His ear was, or became, heavy, or dull of hearing: or deaf: but in the K we find, less properly, وَقَرَ and وَقِرَ, [as though signifying he was, or became, dull of hearing: or deaf:] Verbal.Noun وَقْرٌ, which by rule should be وَقَرٌ; and وُقِرَ, like عُنِىَ. You say also, وَقَرَتْ أُذُنِى عَنْهُ [My ear was dull of hearing, or deaf, to him]: and وُقِرَتْ عَنِ ٱسْتِمَاعِ كَلَامِهِ [it was dull of hearing, or deaf, to the hearing of, or listening to, his speech]. (A, TA: but in the latter, وَقِرَتْ.)
3 [Hence also,] وَقَرَ, Present.T يَقِرُ, Verbal.Noun وَقارٌ, He, or it, was, or became, still, or motionless; rested; syn. سَكَنَ. So in the phrase وَقَرَ فِى القَلْبِ It rested in the heart, or mind: and وَقَرَفِى صَدْرِهِ it rested in his bosom: occurring in a trad., accord. to different relations. You say also, كَلَّمْتُهُ كَلِمَةً وَقَرَتْ فِى أُذُنِهِ I spoke to him a speech which rested (ثَبَتَتْ) in his ear. And وَقَرَ فِى السَّمْعِ وَوَعَاهُ القَلْبُ [It rested in the ear; and the heart, or mind, kept it in memory]. And وَقَرَ فِى قَلْبِهِ كَذَا Such a thing came into his mind and left its impression remaining.
4 [And hence,] وَقَرَ, Present.T يَقِرُ; and وَقِرَ, Present.T يَوْقَرُ; Verbal.Noun وَقْرٌ, of the former, and وُقُورَةٌ, of the latter; He sat: or he sat with وَقَار [i. e. gravity, &c.].
5 [Hence also,] وَقَرَ, Present.T يَقِرُ; and وَقُرَ, Present.T يَوَقُرُ; Verbal.Noun وَقَارٌ, of the former, or of the latter, and قِرَةٌ, of the former, and وَقَارَةٌ, of the latter; He was, or became, grave, staid, steady, sedate, or calm; [see وَقَارٌ, below;] as also and تَوَقَّرَ : or this last, signifies he showed, exhibited, or manifested, gravity, staidness, steadiness, sedateness, or calmness: [and also, agreeably with analogy, he endeavoured, or he constrained himself, to be grave, &c.] It is said in the Kur. [xxxiii. 33,] وَقِرْنَ فِى بُيُوتِكُنَّ [meaning, accord. to some, And be ye grave, &c., in your houses, or chambers]: or the meaning is, and sit ye, &c.: and so another reading, وَقَزْنَ: or this latter, or each of these two readings, is from القَرَارُ, [i. e.,] from قَرَّ, Present.T يَقَرُّ and يَقِرُّ; and is a contraction of إِقْرَرْنَ [or إِقْرِرْنَ].
