إِمْلِيسٌ

إِمْلِيسٌ and with ة, A desert in which is no herbage: pl. أَمَالِيسُ and أَمَالِسُ, [the latter] contr. to general rule, the ى being suppressed by poetic licence: or أَمَالِسُ signifies land in which are no trees, nor fresh nor dry herbage, nor wild animals; sing, إِمْلِيسٌ; app. from مَلَاسَةٌ, [Verbal.Noun of مَلُسَ,] i. e., smooth land, in which is nothing: or أَمَالِيسُ is pl. of أَمْلَاسٌ, which is pl. [of pauc.] of مَلَسٌ , meaning, an even place, in which is no herbage; and the pl. of mult. is مُلُوسٌ: and you say also, أَرْضٌ مَلَسٌ and مَلَسَى and and إِمْلِيسٌ, meaning, land that produces no herbage; and the pl. is أَمَالِسُ and أَمَالِيسُ, contr. to analogy [unless pls. of إِمْلِيسٌ, in which case the former only is so].
2 You say also, رُمَّانٌ إِمْلِيسٌ and , as though the latter were a rel. n. from إِمْلِيسٌ, not, as is implied in the [S, and] K, as meaning a desert, but as syn. with ; A sweet pomegranate, having no stones: and accord. to Lth, رُمَّانٌ مَلِيسٌ signifies the sweetest kind of pomegranate, which is that without stones. [See شَنْبَآءُ, voce أَشْنَبُ.]
