Full Definition

اعلاهُIV He elevated it ; or made it high, or lofty; as also علّاهُ , with teshdeed, and عَلَا بِهِ [without teshdeed]: it is [also] said of God, meaning He elevated, or exalted, him; and is like it [in meaning]: and بِفُلَانٍ signifies the same as أَعْلَيْتُهُ [ I elevated, or exalted, such a one; as also, app., (see 4 in art. ظهر,) أَعْلَيْتُ بِفُلَانٍ]. Hence one says, أَعْلَى ٱللّٰهُ كَعْبَهُ [ God exalted, or may God exalt, his nobility].

3 أَعْلِ الوِسَادَةَ means Sit thou upon the cushion.
4 And أَعْلِ عَنِ الوِسَادَةِ Rise thou from the cushion; syn. قُمْ: (TA in art. دك:) or descend thou from it. And اعلى عَنِ الدَّابَّةِ He alighted from the beast.
