دِبَاغٌ

Full Definition

دِبَاغٌ Tan; [tanning-liquor, or ooze;] that with which one tans, i. e., prepares, or makes fit for use, and softens, or makes pliable, a hide, or skin, consisting of قَرَظ [q. v.] and the like; as also دِبْغٌ and دِبْغَةٌ and دِبَاغَةٌ . One says, الجِلْدُ فِى الدِّبَاغِ [The skin is in the tan, or tanning-liquor]. And نَقَعَهُ فِى الدِّبَاغِ [He soaked it in the tanning-liquor]. (K in art. منأ.)
