عُرَامٌ
, [mentioned in the first sentence of this art. as an Verbal.Noun,] when used as [a simple subst.] denoting a quality of a boy, or child, or of a man, signifies Evilness of disposition, or illnature, and exceeding perverseness or crossness or repugnance; and vehemence, and strength; and sharpness; and annoyance, or molestation: [and] the quality of quitting the right course, and exorbitance.
2 Hence, in a trad. of 'Omar, metaphorically used as meaning Sharpness and strength of [the beverage termed] نَبِيذ made of raisins.
3 And Numerousness of an army, and sharpness, and vehemence, thereof.
4 Also Ignorance.
def.2 And The عُرَاق [app. meaning flesh-meat] of a bone: and likewise [i. e., app., portions that are cropped by camels] of trees. (S, K. [See عُرَاقٌ, voce عَرْقٌ.]) One says أَعْرَمُ مِنْ كَلْبٍ عَلَى عُرَامٍ [More evil in disposition than a dog over a piece of flesh-meat of a bone]. Or, accord. to Az, العُرَامُ signifies, or it signifies also, What falls of the bark of the [thorn-tree called] عَوْسَج: but others explain it in a general manner, saying that عُرَامُ الشَّجَرَةِ signifies the bark of the tree.
