عِرَضْنَةٌ

Full Definition

عِرَضْنَةٌ An oblique course or motion: and briskness, liveliness, sprightliness: and عِرِضْنَةٌ signifies the same. (TA. [See also عِرَِضَّى.]) One says, يَمْشِى العِرَضْنَةَ and He goes along with a proud gait, inclining towards one side, by reason of his briskness, liveliness, or sprightliness. And تَعْدُو and العِرَضْنَةَ and العِرَضْنَاةَ [perhaps correctly العِرَضْنَاتَ] She runs in a sidelong manner, one time in one direction and another time in another. And يَعْدُو العِرَضْنَةَ He runs so that he outstrips. And نَظَرْتُ إِلَى فُلَانٍ عِرَضْنَةً I looked towards such a one from the outer angle of my eye. The dim. of is عُرَيْضِنٌ ; the ن being retained because it is a letter of quasi-coordination, and the ى suppressed because it is not such.
2 Also, [app. for ذَاتُ عِرَضْنَةٍ,] A she-camel that goes along obliquely, by reason of briskness, liveliness, or sprightliness: pl. عِرَضْنَاتٌ. (S, O. [See, again, عِرَضَّى.] But A'Obeyd disallows the application of this epithet to a she-camel. (TA in art. عرضن.)
3 And A woman that has become broad by reason of her fatness and plumpness.
