Root: فعل

Full Definition

فَعَالٌ , accord. to Lth, is a name for A good doing, such as liberality, or bounty, and generosity, and the like of these: or, accord. to IAar, the doing of a single person, peculiarly, [as distinguished from فِعَالٌ, q. v.,] relating to good and to evil; one says, فُلَانٌ كَرِيمُ الفَعَالِ [Such a one is generous in respect of doing or doings], and فُلَانٌ لَئِيمُ الفَعَالِ [Such a one is mean in respect of doing or doings]; and Az says that this is the correct explanation: not that of Lth; and Mbr [likewise] says, it is used in commendation and in discommendation: and it is used only of a single agent.
