قُرَادٌ

Full Definition

قُرَادٌ [a coll. gen. n., The tick; or ticks;] a certain insect, well known, that clings to camels and the like, [and to dogs &c.,] and bites them; it is, to them, like the louse to man: [see also حَلَمَةٌ and حَمْنَانٌ:] n. un. with ة: pl. أَقْرِدَةٌ, and قِرْدَانٌ and قُرُدٌ: قُرْدٌ also signifies the same as قُرَادٌ, or is a contraction of the pl. قُرُدٌ. أَذَلُّ مِنْ قُرَادٍ and أَسْفَلُ من قراد [Viler than a tick] are proverbial sayings.

def.2 القُرَادُ, or قُرَادُ الثَّدْىِ, or قُرَادُ الصَّدْرِ, The nipple (حَلَمَة) of the breast: called قُرَادٌ and حَلَمَةٌ as being likened. to a large tick: (Mgh in art. حلم:) the nipple of the dug of a mare.

def.3 أَمُّ القِرْدَانِ The place between the fetlock and hoof of a horse: also, the part between the phalanges (سُلَامَيَات) of the foot of a camel.
