Root: سرد

Full Definition

مِسْرَدٌ and سِرَادٌ An instrument for perforating: and, or as some say, an instrument with which leather is sewed; syn. مِخْرَزٌ; or إِشْفًى; which is [said to be] the same thing as the مِخْرَز; as also سَرِيدٌ : or an [instrument of the kind called] إِشْفًى that has a hole at its extremity; and so سَرِيدٌ and سَرَادٌ . (TA: [but the last I think a mistake for سِرَاد.])
2 [Hence,] one says, هُوَ ٱبْنُ مِسْرَدٍ, or هُوَ ٱبْنُ أُمِّ مِسْرَدٍ, He is the son of a female slave: because she is a sewer of skins, or leather: an expression of vituperation.
3 [Hence, likewise,] مِسْرَدٌ also signifies The tongue. So in the saying, فُلَانٌ يَخْرِقُ الأَعْرَاضَ بِمِسْرَدِهِ [Such a one wounds reputations with his tongue].

def.2 Also A sandal having its لِسَان [or tongue, i. e. the thing projecting in its fore part,] faced with another piece sewed on.
