مِطْرَاقٌ

def.3 And pl. of مَطَارِيق in the saying جَآءَتِ الإِبِلُ مَطَارِيقَ which means The camels came in one طَرِيق [i. e. road, or way]: or the camels came following one another when drawing near to the water. (O, K, TA. [See also a similar phrase voce طَرَقٌ.])
2 [Hence,] مِطْرَاقُ الشَّىْءِ signifies That which follows the thing; and the like of the thing: one says, هٰذَا مِطْرَاقُ هٰذَا This is what follows this; and the like of this: and the pl. is مَطَارِيقُ.
3 And مَطَارِيقُ signifies also Persons going on foot: one says, خَرَجَ القَوْمُ مَطَارِيقَ The people, or party, went forth going on foot; having no beasts: and the sing. is مِطْرَاقٌ, or مُطْرِقٌ , accord. to A 'Obeyd; the latter, if correct, extr.
