Full Definition

مَهْرِيَّةٌ Camels of Mahreh; i. e. certain camels, so called in relation to Mahreh Ibn- Heydán, a tribe, or a great tribe, or the father of a tribe of El-Yemen: or in relation to Mahreh, a district of 'Omán: they are excellent camels, that outstrip horses; and some add, that they are unequalled in quickness of running, understanding what is desired of them with the least training, and having names, by which being called, they answer quickly: [and hence, any such like camels; i. e. any excellent, fleet, camels: n. un. مَهْرِىٌّ:] pl. مَهَارِىُّ [which is irreg. like ظَهَارِىٌّ] and مَهَارٍ and مَهَارَى, written in the L مَهَارِى, [and so in the CK,] or مَهَارَا, the ى being changed into ا, [but it generally retains the form of ى, though pronounced ا.] See also حُوشِىٌّ.
