Full Definition

أُرْوِيَّةٌ , originally [أُرْوُويَةٌ,] of the measure أُفْعُوِلَةٌ, and إِرْوِيَّةٌ, The female of the وُعُول, which means mountain-goats: or the female and the male; the former of which is also called عَنْزٌ, and the latter وَعِلٌ; and which are of the [kind called] شَآءٌ; not of the [kind called] بَقَرٌ: pl. أَرَاوِىٌّ, of the measure أَفَاعِيلُ, a pl. of pauc., Msb,) applied to three and more, to ten [inclusive], and أَرْوَى , applied to many, of the measure أَفْعَلُ, erroneously held by Abu-l-'Abbás to be of the measure فَعْلَى; an irregular pl.; or [rather] it is a quasi-pl. n.; and أَرَوِىُّ is a broken pl. It is also a proper name of a woman: and so is أَرْوَى .
