أَصْحَبْتُهُ

Full Definition

أَصْحَبْتُهُIV [I made such a one to be a companion, or an associate, to him]. And أَصْحَبْتُهُ الشَّىْءَ I made the thing to be [as it were] a companion to him; and so ; as in the saying, استصحبته الكِتَابَ وَغَيْرَهُ I made the book, or writing, &c., to be [as it were] his companion.
2 And اصحبهُ He did to him that which caused him to be a companion, or an associate, to him.
3 And He left upon it, namely, a skin, its hair, or its wool; not subjecting it to the process termed عَطْنٌ.

def.2 اصحب, intrans., He became one having a companion, or an associate: and he was, or became, one having companions, or associates.
2 And [hence,] He had a son who had attained to manhood and so become like him: i. e. he was alone, and became one having a companion; or as though his son became his companion.
3 And He became tractable, submissive, or obsequious, after being refractory, or incompliant; [and so , as is implied by an explanation of its part. n. مُصَاحِبٌ; and , for] hence, one says also, اِسْتَصْعَبَ تُمَّ ٱسْتَصْحَبَ [He was refractory, or incompliant: then he became tractable, submissive, or obsequious]: and accord. to A 'Obeyd, one says, الرَّجُلَ, from الصُّحْبَةُ, and أَصْحَبْتُ [app. اصحبت لَهُ], meaning I became tractable, submissive, or obsequious, to the man.
4 And, said of water, It became overspread with [the green substance termed] طُحْلُب.
