Full Definition

أَطْلَعَIV see 1, former half, in five places.
2 اطلعت النَّخْلَةُ signifies also The palm-tree became tall.
3 And اطلع, also, He made his arrow to pass above the butt.
4 And He vomited.
5 And اطلعت السَّمَآءُ i. q. أَقْلَعَت [i. e. The rain cleared away].
6 اطلع followed by عَلَى: see 1, latter half:
7 and see also 8.
8 And اطلع as syn. with أَشْرَفَ: see 8, in two places.

def.2 اطلع رَأْسَهُ [He raised his head, looking at a thing; or] he looked at a thing from above; syn. أَشْرَفَ عَلَى شَىْءٍ.
2 اطلعهُ عَلَى كَذَا He made him acquainted with such a thing; acquainted him with it, or made him to know it. إِطْلَاعٌ signifies The making to know, and to see. For an ex. [of the latter meaning], in the pass. form of the verb, see 8. You say, اطلعهُ عَلَى سِرِّهِ, He made him to know, or revealed, or showed, to him, his secret. [See also 8, last sentence.] And أَنَا بِحَقِيقَةِ الأَمْرِ means أُطْلِعُكَ عَلَيْهِ [I will acquaint thee with the truth of the case]. And similar to this is the saying, بِكُتُبِكَ [meaning Acquaint thou me with thy letters: and also, by means of thy letters; for] one of the meanings of مُطَالَعَةٌ is The making one to know a thing by writing. [And in like manner,] one says also, بِالحَالِ, Verbal.Noun مُطَالَعَةٌ and طِلَاعٌ, He showed, exhibited, or manifested, the case.
3 You say also, اطلع إِلَيْهِ مَعْرُوفًا He did to him, or conferred upon him, a benefit, benefaction, or favour.
4 And اطلع فُلَانًا He made such a one to hasten, or be quick.
