الاِعْتِقَامُVIII signifies The digging a well, and, when one has nearly reached the water, digging a small well, in the middle of the former, of sufficient dimensions for one's finding the flavour of the water; when, if it be sweet, the rest of it is dug, and made wide; otherwise it is abandoned.
2 Also The entering into, or upon, an affair.
