امضّهُIV , Verbal.Noun إِمْضَاضٌ; and Present.T مَضُضَ Verbal.Noun مَضٌّ and مَضِيضٌ; but the latter form of the verb was not known to As, and is said by Th, and by Aboo-'Amr Ibn-El- 'Alà, to be obsolete; or the former is of the dial. of Temeem; It pained him: it burned him, and distressed him: it affected, or distressed, his heart with grief; and both are said also of pain, and of disquietude of mind, and of a man beating another. You say also, الكُحْلُ يُمِضُّ العَيْنَ; and , and ; The collyrium pains the eye: or burns it: or pains and burns it: or stings it by its pungency. And مَضَّ الخَلُّ The vinegar burned his mouth. And أَمَضَّنِى هٰذَا القَوْلُ This saying distressed me. And امضّهُ جِلْدُهُ فَدَلَكَهُ His skin itched [and he therefore rubbed it].
