بَادٌّ

Root: بد

Full Definition

بَادٌّ The inner side of the thigh: or the part of the horseman's thigh that is next the saddle: or the part between the legs: the inner sides of the two thighs are called the بَادَّانِ, because the saddle separates them; and if so, بَادٌّ is of the measure فَاعِلٌ in the sense of the measure مَفْعُولٌ; or it may be a possessive epithet [meaning ذُو بَدٍّ]. You say, هُوَ حَسَنُ البَادِّ عَلَى السَّرجِ, meaning He is a good rider upon the saddle.
2 Also the part of a horse's back upon which the thigh of the rider presses.
