Full Definition

بَثَّهُI , Present.T بَثُثَ and بَثِثَ the latter [anomalous, and therefore] thought by MF to be a mistake, arising from confounding بَثَّ with بَتَّ, he not knowing any authority for it except the K, Verbal.Noun بَثٌ; and , Verbal.Noun إِبْثَاثٌ; and , or this has an intensive signification; and , Verbal.Noun بَثْبَثَةٌ; He spread it; he dispersed it, scattered it, or disseminated it; namely, a thing; or news, tidings, or information. You say, بَثُّوا الخَيْلَ فِى الغَارَةِ They spread, or dispersed, the horses, or horseme in the hostile incursion. And بَثَّ الجُنْدَ فِي البِلَادِ He spread, or dispersed, the army in the provinces. And بَثَّ كِلَابَهُ He spread, or dispersed, his dogs عَلَ الصَّيْدِ [against the chase, or game]. And بَثَّ ٱللّٰهُ الخَلْقَ, (Present.T بَثُثَ Verbal.Noun بَثٌّ, Msb,) God spread, or dispersed, mankind, or the beings whom He created, فِي الأَرْضِ [in the earth]: or God created them. وَبَثٌّ مِنْهُمَا رِحَالًا كثيرًا وَنِسَآءٌ, in the Kur [iv. 1.], means And spread, or dispersed, and multiplied, from them two, many men, and women. You say also, بُثَّتِ البُسُطُ The carpets were spread. And بَثَّ المَتَاعَ بِنَوَاحِى البَيْتِ He spread out the furniture, or utensils, in the sides of the tent, or house, or chamber. And بَثَّ الغُبَارَ, and , He, or it, raised the dust. And بَثْبَثَ التَُّرَابَ He, or it, raised the dust, or earth, and removed it from that which was beneath it. And They uncovered him. And بَثَّ الحَدِيثَ He spread, published, or revealed, the discourse, narration, or information. And, accord. to IF, بَثَّ السِّرَّ and [He spread, published, or revealed, the secret]. And بَثَثْتُهُ مَا فِي نَفْسِى, Present.T بَثُثَ ; and إِيَّاهُ; I revealed, or showed, to him what was in my mind. And سِرِىّ, or السِّرَّ; and بَثَثْتُكَ السِّرَّ, Verbal.Noun بَثٌّ; I revealed, or showed, to him my secret, or the secret: or سِرِّى and سِرِّى I acquainted him with my secret: and الحَدِيثَ he acquainted him with the discourse, narration, or information. And بَثَّهُ شُقُورَهُ He complained to him of his state, or condition. (M, in art. شقر.)
