بَرْقٌ [Lightning;] what gleams in the clouds, or, from the clouds; from بَرَقَ [in the first of the senses explained above], said of a thing, Verbal.Noun [بَرْقٌ and] بَرِيقٌ: or an angel's smiting the clouds, and putting them in motion, in order that they may become propelled, so that thou seest the fires [issue from them]: or a whip of light with which the angel drives the clouds: sing. of بُرُوقٌ, i. e., of the بروق of the clouds: or it has no pl., being originally an Verbal.Noun بَرْقُ الخُلَّبِ and بَرْقُ خُلَّبٍ and بَرْقٌ خُلَّبٌ signify That [lightning] which is without rain.
