جِرِّىٌّ (written in the Towsheeh with fet-h to the ج also, TA,) [The eel;] a kind of fish, long and smooth, resembling the serpent, and called in Persian مَارْ مَاهِى; said to be a dial. var. of جِرِّيثٌ; not eaten by the Jews, and forbidden to be eaten by 'Alee; having no scales: or any fish having no scales.
