Full Definition

حَارَI , [sec. pers. حِرْتَ,] Present.T يَحَارُ, and some say يَحِيرُ, but this is a mistake, Verbal.Noun حَيْرَةٌ and حَيَرٌ and حَيْرٌ and حَيَرَانٌ, He was, or became, dazzled by a thing at which he looked, so that he turned away his eyes from it: this is the primary signification: and so تحيّر and , and حاربَصَرُهُ and تحيّر بصره. (Mgh, and S and A and K in art. قمر, &c.)
2 And hence, He was, or became, confounded, or perplexed, and unable to see his right course; as also تحيّر and . And حار, or حار فِى أَمْرِهِ, i. q. تحيّر فى امره [He was, or became, confounded, &c., in his affair, or case]. And [حار (see its part. n. حَائِرٌ) and] تحيّر [and ] He erred, or lost his way.
3 Also, said of water, and تحيّر and , It became collected, and stayed, or went round, or went to and fro, or fluctuated, in a place, as though it knew not which way to run.
