خَطِلٌ

Full Definition

خَطِلٌ Long and quivering; applied to a spear.
2 And simply Long: so in the phrase, رَجُلٌ خَطِلُ القَوَائِمِ [A man having long legs].
3 And, applied to a garment, That drags upon the ground by reason of its length.
4 Also, applied to a garment, and a بَدَن [app. here meaning a short coat of mail], Rough and thick: pl. أَخْطَالٌ.
5 Also Stupid, or foolish, and hasty.
6 Light and quick; applied to a stupid, or foolish person; and أَخْطَلُ signifies the same.
7 A fighting man quick in thrusting or piercing.
8 One who gives, or bestows, quickly; or so خَطِلُ اليَدَيْنِ; or so خَطِلُ اليَدَيْنِ بِالمَعْرُوفِ: a tropical phrase. And خَطِلُ اليَدَيْنِ A man having rough arms or hands.
9 Also Corrupt in speech, and loquacious; and so أَخْطَلُ : or erring, or wrong, in speech, and in opinion, or judgment.
10 An arrow that goes to the right and left; that does not take a direct course towards the butt.
