Full Definition

صُبْرٌ and صِبْرٌ The side of a thing: or a side rising above the rest of a thing: or its upper part, or top: and the edge of a thing: and its thickness: formed by transposition from بُصْرٌ: pl. أًصْبَارٌ, and pl. pl. أَصْبَارَةٌ. أَصْبَارٌ signifies The sides of a vessel, and of a grave. And you say, He filled the drinking-cup, and the measure, إِلَى أَصْبَارِهِ, to its top, as also الى أَصْمَارِهِ; or to its uppermost parts; or to its edges. And أَخَذَهُ بِأَصْبَارِهِ He took it altogether. And لَقِىَ الشِّدَّةَ بِأَصْبَارِهَا He met with complete distress, or adversity. And in a trad., the tree called سِدْرَةُ المُنْتَهَى is said to be صُبْرَ الجَنَّةِ in the highest part of Paradise.
