Full Definition

مِفْرَاصٌ and A thing with which silver is cut, and gold: or a broad iron instrument with which one cuts: or the iron with which iron is cut, or silver: or a broad iron instrument with which iron is cut: or the iron with which silver is cut: [see also مِقْرَاضٌ:] or, as some say, i. q. إِشْفًى [q. v.] with a broad head, with which sandals are sewed. El-Aashà says, وَأَدْفَعُ عَنْ أَعْرَاضِكُمْ وَأُعِيرُكُمْ لِسَانًا كَمِفْرَاصِ الخَفَاجِىِّ مِلْحَبَا [And I defend your honours, and lend to you a tongue like the مفراص of the Khafájee, sharp]. And you say, بَيْنَ جَنْبَيْهِ مِفْرَاصُ الخَفَاجِىِّ [Between his two sides is an intellect sharp as the مفراص of the Khafájee]. [Hence it seems that among the tribe of Khafájeh were expert workers with the instrument thus called.]
