مِنَصَّةٌ

Root: نص

Full Definition

مِنَصَّةٌ , or مَنَصَّةٌ , The thing upon which a bride is raised and seated, or shown or displayed, or upon which she stands (تقف [but this is probably a mistake for تَقْعُدُ, i. e. sits,]) when displayed to the bridegroom, in order that she may be seen [and distinguished] from among the women; being a chair, or couch; or consisting of pieces of cloth raised, and carpets laid smoothly for a seat: written with kesr as being an instrument, or with fet-h [as being a place]: accord. to some authorities, مِنَصَّةٌ and مَنَصَّةٌ seem to signify the same thing: or the latter is the حَجَلَة [i. e. a kind of curtained canopy] over the مِنَصَّة: from نَصَّ المَتَاعَ, q. v. It is said in a proverb, وُضِعَ فُلَانٌ عَلَى المِنَصَّةِ Such a one was exposed to disgrace and infamy: or to the utmost disgrace and infamy.
