Full Definition

أَعْضَضْتُهُIV I made him to bite the thing; or to seize it, or take hold of it, with his teeth.
2 It is said in a trad., مَنْ تَعَزَّى بِعَزَآءِ الجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَأَعِضُّوهُ بِهَنِ أَبِيهِ وَلَا تَكْنُوا i. e. Whoso asserteth his relationship [of son] in the manner of the people of the Time of Ignorance, meaning by saying, in crying out for aid or succour, يَا لَفُلَانٍ, (Mgh and Msb in art. عزو,) and exclaiming, أَنَا فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ, say ye to him اِعْضَضْ بِأَيْرِ أَبِيكَ, or اعضض أَيْرَ أَبِيكَ, [Bite thou the اير of thy father,] and use not a metonymical term for it, by saying هن for اير.
3 أَعْضَضْتُهُ سَيْفِى [I made my sword to wound him;] I smote him with my sword. And أَعَضَّ السَّيْفَ بِسَاقِ البَعِيرِ [He made the sword to wound the thigh, or shank, of the camel]. And أَعَضَّ المَحَاجِمَ قَفَاهُ He made the cupping-instruments to cleave to the back of his neck.

def.2 أَعَضَّتِ البِئْرُ The well became such as is termed عَضُوضٌ.

def.3 أَعَضُّوا Their camels ate [the provender called] عُضّ: and their camels pastured upon [the trees called] عِضّ, or عَضَاض.
