2 Also He took it as a substitute, or in exchange, for another thing; or in the place of another thing; syn. اِسْتَعْوَضَهُ and اِسْتَبْدَلَهُ.
3 استخلفتِ الأَرْضُ The land produced the herbage of the [season called] اِسْتَبْدَلَهُ.
