بَلَّةٌ

Full Definition

بَلَّةٌ [A single act of moistening.
2 And hence,] The least sprinkling (أَدْنَى بَلَلٍ lit. the least moisture) of good. (TA in art. هل.) You say, جَآءَنَا فُلَانٌ فَلَمْ يَأْتِنَا بِهَلَّةٍ وَلَا بَلَّةٍ [Such a one came to us and did not bring us anything to rejoice us nor the least sprinkling of good]: هلّة, accord. to ISK, being from الفَرَحُ and الاِسْتِهْلَالُ, and بلّة from البَلْلُ and الخَيْرُ. And مَا أَصَابَ هَلَّةً وَلَا بَلَّةً He did not obtain, or has not obtained, anything.
3 Wealth, or competence: or wealth, or competence, after poverty; as also بُلَّى .
4 Remains of herbage or pasture; as also بُلَّةٌ .
5 The freshness of youth; as also بُلَّةٌ ; but the former word is the more approved.
