ذَرِيعٌ

Full Definition

ذَرِيعٌ Wide in step, and light, or active, in pace, or going; applied to a horse, and to a camel; as also ذَرُوعٌ : and quick: [and so ذَرِعٌ ; for] , applied to the legs of a quadruped (قَوَائِمٌ), signifies quick, wide in step, taking much of the ground: or, as some say, this last word signifies the legs of a beast, like مَذَارِعُ , pl. of مِذْرَاعٌ. It is said of Mohammad, in a trad., كَانَ ذَرِيعَ المَشْىِ He was quick, and wide of step, in walking. And you say, رَجُلٌ ذَرِيعٌ بِالِكِتَابَةِ A man quick in writing. And أَكَلَ أَكْلًا ذَرِيعًا He ate quickly and much. And قَتْلٌ ذَرِيعٌ Quick slaughter. And مَوْتٌ ذَرِيعٌ Spreading death: or quick, spreading death, such that the people can hardly, or can in no wise, bury one another.
