شَعِيرَةٌ A sign, or mark.

def.2 Also n. un. of شَعِيرٌ [q. v.].
2 And [hence,] The iron [pin] that enters into the tang of a knife which is inserted into the handle, being a fastening to the handle: or a thing that is moulded of silver or of iron, in the form of a barley-corn, entering into the tang of the blade which is inserted into the handle, being a fastening to the handle of the blade.
3 [And A measure of length, defined in the law-books &c. as equal to six mule's hairs placed side by side;] the sixth part of the إِصْبَع [or digit]. (Msb voce مِيلٌ.)
