عِرِّيسٌ and عِرِّيسَةٌ, [the latter the more common,] A thicket: the covert, or retreat, of the lion, in a thicket. [It is said in a prov.,] كَمُبْتَغِى الصَّيْدِ فِى عِرِّيسَةِ الأَسَدِ [Like the seeker of game in the covert of the lion]: from a verse of Et-Tirimmáh.
2 Also the former, The place of growth [or origin] of the stock of a man, among his people.
