بَارِقٌ

Full Definition

بَارِقٌ Shining, gleaming, or glistening.
2 Clouds (سَحَابٌ) having, or containing, [or emitting,] lightning. You say also سَحَابَةٌ بَارِقَةٌ[A cloud having, or emitting, lightning]: and سحابة signifies the same [but in an intensive manner: see بَرَّاقٌ].
3 بَارِقَةٌ Swords: so called because of their shining, or glistening: pl. بَوَارِقُ; applied to swords and other weapons. Hence the trad. of 'Ammàr, الجَنَّةُ تَحْتَ البَارِقَةِ [Paradise is beneath the swords]; meaning, in warring in the cause of God. You also say, رَأَيْتُ البَارِقَةَ meaning I saw the shining, or glistening, of the weapons.
