Full Definition
2 عَارَ فِى الأَرْضِ, Present.T as above, He went away in, or into, the land, or country.
3 And عَارَ, Present.T as above, Verbal.Noun عِيَارٌ, or this is a simple subst., He went away hither and thither, which action is also termed مُعَايَرَةٌ [Verbal.Noun of ], as though he had made his escape from his master, going to and fro: and the same is said of news: or escaped, or got loose, and went away hither and thither, by reason of his exceeding sprightliness: or escaped, or got loose, and went away at random: or went away hither and thither, by reason of his sprightliness: or strayed at random, nothing turning him: or went away at random, far from his master.
4 And عَارَ, He came and went, moving to and fro.
5 عَارَ فِى القَوْمِ يَضْرِبُهُمْ بِالسَّيْفِ, Verbal.Noun عَيَرَانٌ, He went and came among the people, or did mischief among them, smiting them with the sword.

def.2 عَارَهُ, Present.T يَعِيرُهُ and يَعُورُهُ, (S and K in art. عور,) or the Present.T is not used, or it is scarcely ever used, He, or it, took, and went away with, him, or it: or destroyed him, or it. See art. عور. You say عِرْتُ ثَوْبَهُ, I took, or went away with, his garment. And it is said in a prov., عَيْرٌ عَارَهُ وَتِدُهُ An ass which his peg [to which he was tethered] destroyed [by preventing his escape from wild beasts that attacked him].
