مَشْعَرٌ i. q. مَعْلَمٌ [meaning A place where a thing is known to be].
2 And hence, A place of the performance of religious services. See this word, and its pl. مَشَاعِرُ, voce شِعَارٌ, in four places.
3 [The pl.] المَشَاعِرُ also signifies The five senses; the hearing, the sight, the smell, the taste, and the touch. (S and Msb in art. حس.)
