Full Definition

مَلَحَتْI , (Present.T ـَ and ـُ L,) Such a woman suckled, or gave suck, for such a one.
2 مَلَحْنَا لِفُلَانٍ, Verbal.Noun مَلْحٌ, We [meaning the wife of one of us] suckled, or gave suck, for such a one: or we suckled such a one.
3 مَلَحَ الوَلَدَ [app. He caused the child to be suckled;] syn. with أَرْضَعَهُ. [See أَرْضَعَ.]
4 مَلُحَ; and ملّح , Verbal.Noun تَمْلِيحٌ; and تملّح ; the last said to be formed by transposition from تحلّم; but ISd, sees no reason for this assertion; He became fat. ملّحت she became fat: or, became a little fat: She became fat in a small degree. Also تملّحت They (lizards such as are called ضِبَاب) became fat; as also تحلّمت.

2 مَلُحَ, Present.T ـُ Verbal.Noun مَلَاحَةٌ and مُلُوحَةٌ and مِلْحٌ, the first of which is the most common, and the last the least common, It was, or became, goodly, beautiful, or pretty; and beautiful of colour; or beautiful and bright; pleasing to the eye or ear; facetious.
3 مَلَحَ القِدْرَ, Present.T ـَ and ـِ Verbal.Noun مَلْحٌ, He put salt into the cooking-pot: or put a proper quantity of salt into it: and accord. to Sb, ملّح and signify the same as مَلَحَ: or مَلَّحَهَا, Verbal.Noun تَمْلِيحٌ, and أَمْلَحَهَا, signify he put much salt into it, so that it [meaning its contents] became spoiled.
4 مَلَحَ, Verbal.Noun مَلْحٌ; and ملّح , Verbal.Noun تَمْليحٌ; He fed camels or sheep or goats with salt earth, or with earth and salt, the salt being more in quantity. This is done when the animals cannot procure plants of the kind called حَمْض.
5 مَلَحَ, Present.T ـَ and ـِ Verbal.Noun مَلْحٌ; and ملّح ; He salted fish.
6 مَلَحَ; Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun مَلْحٌ, He salted flesh-meat, and a skin, or hide.
7 Also ملّحهُ , Verbal.Noun تَمْلِيحٌ, He rubbed his palate with salt.
8 مَلِحَ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun مَلَحٌ, He, or it, was blue, or gray, [see مُلْحَةٌ,] in such a degree as to incline to whiteness; as also إِمْلَحَّ , Verbal.Noun إِمْلِحَاحٌ; and أَمْلَحَ .
9 Also, He was black, with whiteness overspreading his hair: or, of a dusty white colour: or, of a clear white colour: [and in like manner,] إِمْلَحَّ , Verbal.Noun إِمْلِحَاحٌ, he was of a white colour intermixed with black.
